The ACSP's 5th annual Cordillera Blanca research expedition was extremely successful and productive! Between June 15th and August 10th, our team of scientists, students, and volunteers collected data on glaciers, water quality, native plant and animal communities, and studied the impacts of overgrazing in high mountain valleys.
Our fantastic team of volunteers included US and Peruvian undergraduate and graduate students, adventurers and mountaineers, and committed individuals with a broad range of backgrounds and professions from permaculture to education to cinematography.
The research carried out this year will lead to three MS degrees for US and Peruvian students, several scientific publications, and highly relevant and timely information for the managers of Huascaran National Park and local policy makers. The ACSP is planning an expedition to this area in the summer of 2016 to follow up on many promising lines of research in the Cordillera Blanca.
