Hinku Valley Trek

Prior to the Mt. Everest climb, we will have the optional opportunity to visit two valleys for acclimatization and to collect research data. Non climbers are welcome to join this section of the expedition. March 20: Fly to Lukla.

From March 28 - April 8, we will trek up the Hinku valley with US and Nepali Graduate Students and examine the impact of the recent Nepali civil war on Makalu Barun National Park.

We will trek over the Zatra La Pass, to Kothe, then Thagnag and later Khare. From Khare, we will climb to Mera high camp and then summit Mt. Mera (6476 m, 21,247 ft), before heading back to Lukla.

Gokyo Lakes Trek

We will spend ~12 days trekking to Everest Basecamp (5300 m) via the Gokyo lakes trek and over Cho La ( >5000 m), camping each night or staying in teahouses along-route.

From Lukla, we will proceed to Everest/Lhotse Base camp via the Gokyo Lakes and over Cho La. From April 10 to 15, we will make our way to Phakding, Namche Bazaar, Dole, Mochermo and Gokyo. On April 16 and 17 we will ascend Cho La, a high mountain pass, before arriving at Everest Base Camp on April 18.
