Upcoming Expeditions
2025 Khan tengri / central asia expedition
August 2025, three weeks TBD
In one of our most ambitious expeditions since our last trip to Nepal, we will sample from one of the fast fading glaciers on one of the most difficult and striking peaks of the Snow Leopards in Kazakhstan.
Past Expeditions
2024 Turkiye Expedition
August 11 to 22, 2024
Setting the stage for our Central Asia expedition in 2025, ACSP sampled atop Ararat and Suphan, two of Turkiye’s highest stratovolcanoes.
2023/24 Argentina Expedition
December 15 to January 2, 2023/24
As COVID fades into the rearview mirror, ACSP is beginning to return to the highest peaks in the world as we head to Aconcagua.
2023 North Cascades Snow Sampling
May to September, 2023
We will be sampling a variety of locations throughout the North Cascades this summer including Mt. Rainier, Mt. Baker, Mt. Baker, etc. - come lend a hand if you can!
2022 Peru Expedition
July 23 to August 7, 2022
This year, COVID has finally abated enough that we can return to Peru and continue our work exploring the impacts of pollution on mountain glacier, monitoring water quality, and working with local communities and land managers on conservation projects. This year we will also be working with ethnobotanists examining medicinal plants and climate change. We will be studying vegetation impacts of grazing and climate change. And we will be studying how the Cordillera Blanca was created and doing geologic transects across the range.
2019 Nepal Expedition
April 10 to June 7, 2019
The American Climber Science Program will be working in Nepal at Mt. Everest and Lhotse in Spring, 2019. We will be collecting a variety of environmental data to compare with our on-going research in the Cordillera Blanca in Peru and past research on Mt. Everest.

Costa Rica Sea 2 Sea Expedition
In December 2013, the ACSP traversed the country of Costa Rica, crossing from the Pacific to the Atlantic Ocean. The purpose of the expedition was to collect ecological data across a long transect that passed through some of the most biologically diverse and undisturbed wilderness in Central America. It was our objective to complete as much of the crossing as safely possible under human power. The crossing involved kayaking, mountain biking, and a challenging 12-day backpacking section across a nearly unexplored region of the Talamanca mountain range in La Amistad International Park and Biosphere Reserve. This was very likely the first ever research expedition to explore this remote mountain rainforest.
The expedition was highly successful and yielded a wealth of ecological data including surveys of bird diversity, measurements of vegetation structure, soil chemistry, sound recordings, and livelihood data from indigenous communities. Our results have been shared with local land managers and researchers to contribute to the conservation of this spectacular region.
