Khan Tengri - Kyrgyzstan / Central Asia Expedition 2025
This summer ASCP will embark on one of our most ambitious sampling missions in several years, climbing and sampling the glaciers atop Khan Tengri whose peak straddles the borders of the three nations of Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and China. Khan Tengri is one of the five Snow Leopard (7000m+) peaks in the Tian Shan mountain range, one of the most visually stunning and among the most challenging to climb. Khan Tengri is generally considered to be 7010m in elevation.
We are currently working on logistics for the climb, and so the details below are subject to change. Regarding schedule, Khan Tengri is generally climbable for a very short window every summer in the month of August. We expect the expedition to be approximately three weeks in length with the exact dates to be determined at a later date as we work out local logistics in country.
The cost will be approximately $7000 USD per climber exclusive of airfare, visa, and any additional travel participants may choose to embark on before or after the climb. Participants will be responsible for providing their own gear for a 7000m expedition, though we are pursuing support and sponsorship with several companies that may mitigate this somewhat.
Participants will need arrange to travel to our rally point at Bishkek [map], the capital of Kyrgyzstan. Flights from the United States will tend to connect in Istanbul or Dubai en route. All participants will also be responsible for arranging their own visas for Kyrgyzstan and any other countries they plan on visiting outside of the ASCP expedition climb.
Detailed Schedule (TBD)
Khan Tengri is a challenging high altitude snowfield climb that will require the ascent of fixed ropes on very steep terrain. Khan Tengri is also known to be a colder climb than many other 7000m peaks which will add to the level of difficulty. Experience with other climbs 6000-7000m is strongly preferred and will be considered in climber applications. Acclimatization in advance is strongly recommended for all participants, especially for those residing at or near sea level.
